Busy, busy, busy week and weekend. My mom arrived on Tues. and is visiting here for two weeks. It's great to have her here with us finally! I had a stressful week at work but a fab. weekend! Friday was Leigh's bachelorette party. Saturday was the Fremont Solstice Parade where a little paint went a long way! Awesome tradition!!! What a wacky city :-)
Later that day we went to Leigh and Max's wedding reception in snohomish. We had a blast dancing our tails off with everyone. Today we checked out the Fremont Troll and then went to the Ballard Farmer's Market. We bought some wonderful stuff like Firewood honey, fresh goat cheese, strawberries, rhubarb, rainier cherries, and a gorgeous dark blue and deep purple bouquet! So many treasures to be found there. My mom even discovered there is an entire world of cherries outside of the gross maraschino cherries that go on top of your sundae!
After walking around for a while we bought a brick fired pizza and brought it to the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. Right as we arrived a Scottish Bag Pipe concert began. We had a little picnic on the grass listening to the music. We then checked out the locks, watched some boats pass through, and then viewed the Steelhead salmon making their way through the ladders. It was a great day overall and so nice to show my mom around the city.

Sasquatch '09 re-cap
A month since my last post. The weather has been amazing here in the PNW the past few weeks. Our most recent fun was a roadtrip through the Cascade mountain range to central Washington to Sasquatch music festival. The Gorge one of the most spectacular concert venues in the US or perhaps the world. The show was amazing. We spent the first half of the day lounging in the shade on the hill and enjoying the view. The second half of the day was spent in the crowd, inching our way closer and closer for NIN. We had such a blast and I even discovered a new band. The Avett Brothers are a mixture of bluegrass/southern rock/folk. I'm pretty much a sucker for anything that has a banjo and awesome harmonies. My favorite songs they played were If I Get Murdered in the City and Bella Donna. Matt loved the Nine Inch Nails concert. As always, Trent Reznor was intense and put on a great show. The main reason to go to this show was because it's rumored to be NIN's last tour. A sad day for many fans for sure. I'm so glad we went and were able to enjoy so many different bands. Have to say Murder City Devils was a crazy set. Spencer Moody, the lead singer, went on a crazy rant and was totally nutty! I was competely rivetted the entire time.... didn't know if I should laugh or cringe!

Maui Vacation
Back from a week in Maui, HI. It was paradise! The weather was sunny and in the high 70's-80's, and the water was warm too. Spent the week swimming in the ocean, snorkeling, laying by the beach/pool, and exploring the coast. We had a blast! Drove the road to Hana, it was gorgeous and boasts 600+ turns. Unfortunately, I got a little carsick. I was revived after plunging into a gorgeous and cold waterfall pool. It was one of the most memorable parts of the vacation because I've always wanted to swim in a lush paradise and sit under a waterfall. Snorkeling was amazing too. I had never snorkeled in the ocean before. There were tons of colorful fish all over the place. We even swam with a sea turtle for a bit before it took off. I was always a little bit scared snorkeling fearful of what scary fish (or shark!) we might come upon. Our hotel room was beautiful and even had a view of the beach. The pools were amazing, totally relaxing. Everyone kept assuming we were on a honeymoon and called me Mrs. Wallace over and over. Oh man! I can't wait to go back to Hawaii.

CSA

Tuesday's CSA Box:
Mizuna (greens)
Green Beans
Red Onions
Snow Peas
Red Bibb Lettuce
Cucumber
Zucchini
Radishes
Garnet Yams x2
Hass Avocado
D'anjou Pears
Acorn Squash
The past few weeks we've been drowning in tons of apples, oranges, and grapefruit. We decided to take a break this week so that we can catch up, so we substituted for some extra yams and avocado. Any ideas for good yam recipes? For dinner we made curry and used all of the peas and green beans. I feel like every week is a marathon vegetable eating session! Our neighbor is a member of another CSA that delivers to the apartment so I'm going to compare boxes with him sometime soon too.

long day
Long day at work today. Started it off with a session with a parent who is deeply grieving her child's disability diagnosis. I've been able to be a strong support for her but as our time is drawing to a close I'm realizing how she is just beginning a lifelong journey. Making meaning of a life she never intended and one she still doesn't accept.
Later that day I ended up blowing off a new client's appointment. I had scheduled it over email and forgot to write it in my planner. So embarrassing and a tough way to start with a family. ugh! I'm still getting the hang of keeping all of the little details straight. On the other hand this is the first time since I began working in Nov. that this happened.
Then I ended up doing some coaching of a co-worker. The agency follows a parent coaching model where we utilize consultation with co-workers of different disciplines. I've had a few run-ins with this person who has very strong and often biased/judgmental approach to families. It feels like she's steamrolling all of the time. My skin often bristles when I talk to her! I spent 45 min preparing and getting into a frame of mind where I could enter into a coaching conversation with her. Overall it went well and I was able to stay in control and not react to her comments. Man, but was it ever draining!! It feels like a huge task to be one of two social workers in the entire early intervention agency. I miss the camaraderie of knowing that I had allies and people who shared similar orientations with me. In supervision yesterday I described feeling like I was functioning without a limb, as a result of not having co-workers to process and reflect with on a regular basis.

INFJ
Ten years after first taking the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality test, I ended up with the same personality type - INFJ.
Qualitative analysis of your type formula
You are:
This is also the most rare of the 16 personality types with only 1.5% of the population sharing the type. I was curious to retake the test because I remember identifying pretty deeply with the results. Funny how much we feel like we change and grow but certain things remain a constant. You can take the test here. Love this stuff!

Sewing/Quilting
Started to get into the crafting routine and then suddenly the weather was too gorgeous to even think about staying inside. I even have the sunburn to prove it :-( !
My first project, and one that took the longest was to purchase a good sewing machine. I spent a long time trying out machines in different shops and scouring craigslist. It took awhile but I finally found an awesome machine. At first I was completely against getting a computerized sewing machine but after trying it out and at such a great price I went for it! There are a ton of embroidery stitches and other tricks still to be discovered. I think the best part of the machine is the needle threader. It also has a feature for quilting where the top and bottom layers of fabric are both pulled at the same speed.
My first fun project was to make a potholder. I chose this so I could make something quickly, practice quilting, and we actually needed one! The crafting trifecta.

There are are a milion other things I want to make. My latest inspirations have been this and this. For the second quilt I checked out the book from the Seattle Public Library only to find that the pattern templates weren't inside! Big bummer! Still trying to decide if it's worth it to purchase the book. I'm thinking that making a mini-quilt will be a good starting off project. My biggest hurdle is building up my fabric stash. Such a hard job! ;-) I think I can handle it. Got most of my fabric from a yardsale a couple of weeks ago.
